Youth Coordinator

Job Description

Under the guidance of the Youth Programs Manager, the Youth Leadership Coordinator is responsible for the direct implementation of ACCESS’ core values—Respect, Honor, Sharing, and Kindness—as they relate to the care and support of youth. This blended role involves relationship-building, youth mentorship, STEAM program delivery, and support with planning and implementing Leadership HUB initiatives.

The Youth Coordinator is a blended role that involves building empathetic relationships, and mentoring youth as well as supporting the Youth Programs Manager with planning and implementation of programs. The Youth Coordinator will collaborate with the Youth Programs Manager, and community resources to help youth reach their goals and transition to healthy, confident adults.

Hours of Work: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm (Some evenings and weekend shifts are required)
Location: 110–1607 E Hastings St, Vancouver

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Youth Programs Manager, implement youth programs encouraging engagement
  • Greet and welcome Youth accessing ACCESS’ services, assess and respond to their immediate needs, provide practical resources including food, clothing, transportation, etc.
  • Initiate, develop and maintain relationships with youth from K-12
  • Upon entry to the Youth Leadership Program, introduce the services provided, orient new youth, complete program intake/admission
  • Work collaboratively with Youth Programs Manager to assist understanding of Indigenous leadership programs – Duke of Edinburgh Leadership Program
  • Provide a supportive and structured environment
  • Assist youth with accessing external community supports and accompany them when necessary
  • Coordinate youth meetings and activities, including recreation and life skills
  • Build community partnerships with lower mainland school districts and other relevant organizations
  • Ensure adherence to and role model ACCESS’ mission statement and core values
  • Case Management, Documentation, maintain ARMS database
  • Manage case files, including all relevant reporting and documentation
  • Review all pertinent information and communication (i.e. Incident reports, communications logs, policies, procedures, emails, etc)
  • Attend all training as directed by the manager
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the program areas – both staff and youth
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Certificate or Diploma in related social service, with a minimum of 2 years related experience
  • Ability to design and implement STEAM-focused leadership and development programs for urban Indigenous youth.
  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee workshops, classes, and activities that integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).
  • Engaging with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and leadership as well as be a strong team member
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities is considered an asset, along with a demonstrated ability to build respectful, culturally informed relationships
  • Proficiency in MS Office and data management systems
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license, a clean driving record and access to a personal vehicle and the willingness to obtain a class 4 driver’s license
  • Valid first aid certificate
  • Ability to pass a vulnerable criminal background check
