Position Description

Reporting to the Director of Employment Services, the Employment Advisor supports urban Indigenous peoples through a client-centered approach, providing career planning, employment advising, and funding application assistance. The role involves guiding clients through the necessary steps from unemployment or underemployment toward long-term, sustained attachment to the labour force.

 Key Responsibilities  

  • Provide client-centered career coaching and employment advice to support clients in achieving training, work experience, and long-term employment goals
  • Assess clients’ interests, skills, abilities, barriers, and job readiness, and develop individualized employment plans aligned with labour market opportunities.
  • Support clients to become job-ready by coordinating training and providing coaching in workplace readiness, job search strategies, résumé development, and interview skills
  • Evaluate client eligibility for programs, services, and financial assistance, and assist clients in accessing funding and other relevant supports as required.
  • Match clients with appropriate work experience placements and employment opportunities and actively promote clients to employers based on assessed skills and goals
  • Collaborate with community partners, employers, funders, and stakeholders to coordinate services, expand employment opportunities, and promote ACCESS programs
  • Prepare and facilitate Career Exploration, Job Search, and Employment Maintenance workshops, and support outreach activities as needed
  • Maintain accurate client records, reports, and database entries; conduct ongoing follow-up to monitor progress, adjust plans, and track employment outcomes
  • Additional duties as assigned

 Qualifications & Experience

  • Career Development Practitioner, Human/Indigenous Services Worker; and or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • 2-3 years of professional experience as an Employment Advisor, working effectively with a diverse client population
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities is considered an asset, along with a demonstrated ability to build respectful, culturally informed relationships
  • Valid BC driver’s license is considered an asset

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities paired with excellent listening and problem‑solving skills
  • Team‑oriented and aligned with organizational core values
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and the ability to learn and embrace new systems

  • Adapts quickly to changing priorities and effectively reprioritizes tasks to meet evolving organizational needs
  • Ability to pass a vulnerable criminal background check
