Position Description

Reporting to the Director of BladeRunners, the Indigenous Support Worker is responsible for the day-to-day program management of 38 housing units, located at 250 Powell Street, Vancouver, as well as providing culturally grounded, trauma-informed support to residents. This role supports resident success by fostering accountability, life skills development, community connection, and housing stability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage tenancy intake, including application review, screening, interviews, and orientations
  • Monitor compliance with the Program Agreement and address infractions using supportive interventions
  • Provide consistent one‑to‑one check‑ins and supportive interventions to promote tenant stability and success
  • Promote accountability related to employment, rent, budgeting, and program participation
  • Connect residents with appropriate community resources and support services, including banking, identification, education, and counselling
  • Conduct follow-up meetings for serious Program Agreement infractions with the tenant and implement additional support as needed
  • Coordinate contingency services and respond to crises using non‑violent, trauma‑informed approaches
  • Organize and facilitate mandatory monthly Resident Meetings (100% attendance required)
  • Plan and facilitate monthly resident meetings, culturally focused activities, and community‑building events that encourage resident engagement and participation in community programs.
  • Conduct regular suite inspections and coordinate cleaning, maintenance, and repairs
  • Liaise and work with TBG building manager to ensure overall success of residents within the building and community
  • Liaise with local agencies to deliver in-reach services (i.e. info sessions, one on one counselling, etc.)
  • Provide Rent Ready programming to new residents – a component of the BladeRunners Program training
  • Support tenants in their housing search and transition into other housing at program completion
  • Maintain accurate program and tenant documentation and reports
  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma/degree in social services related program or 3 years’ equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities is considered an asset, along with a demonstrated ability to build respectful, culturally informed relationships
  • 2 years’ experience in supportive/shelter housing
  • Knowledge of community resources and support services available in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES).
  • Ability to establish rapport and build trust with clients through exceptional communication and listening skills
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative internal and external working relationships in alignment with ACCESS Core Values
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently determine priorities, and consistently meet deliverables and deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to remain flexible, adaptable, and solution-focused under pressure
  • Effective conflict resolution and de-escalation skills in challenging or high-pressure situations
  • Strong understanding of client confidentiality, privacy, and professional boundaries

  • Ability to pass a vulnerable sector criminal background check

Hourly Rate $30. 00 per hour/Annual Salary $58,500 based on a 37.5 hour work week.
